From its existence, near enough a century ago the photo booth has captured everything from poodles to presidents and everything in between.
Its popularity has been enjoyed by artists, experimental photographers, rock stars but above all has become a darling to the fashion industry. Prolific patrons included Marilyn Monroe, Edie Sedgwick and Audrey Hepburn. Andy Warhol established a further renaissance in the fashion-styled automatic portrait in the 1960’s, capturing models and New York socialites for several years with just a photo booth.
Photo booths took a slight breather in between and resurged in the millennium. This newfound fascination with the self portrait over took people’s fondness for photographing their dinner. Self portraiture would never be the same again, and to the point it would manifest itself into what we now affectionately call a ‘Selfie’.
