The iconic brand Vans was back at Bread & Butter showcasing their collaboration with fashion royalty Karl Lagerfeld, a collaboration not to be missed. Vans set up a brand lab at the event. Appealing to outsiders and nonconformists since 1966, Vans has become a style staple for young creatives of all stripes. Last year the brand celebrated its 50th anniversary and there are no signs of slowing down the pace.
We were asked by Vans to bring our light painting booth to be incorporated into their brand lab to showcase their new collaborative collection with Karl Lagerfeld at this year's Bread and Butter 2017 event in Berlin. Light painting fitted the brief perfectly and smoothly slotted into place within the Vans brand lab stand with a bespoke glowing white neon sign. Our aim was to create a fun experiential photographic experience that incorporated the brand colours in this case a monochromatic palette was decided upon to fit in with the iconic Lagerfeld style and to capture the cool excitement of the brand.
Light painting allows creative and expressive freedom to draw/paint with light to create unique photographic content. The long exposure allows the camera to capture the person in focus while still recording the torch’s light trail in the dark. Then directly from our sharing station, the unique images are ready for users to view, print, share and upload their pictures onto social media with the hashtag #vansxkarllagerfeld. Over 1600 unique light painting images were produced throughout the festival.
